What Are The OptiCore Pro Ingredients? The Full Label, Row By Row

Quick answer

The OptiCore Pro label prints 16 nutrients with amounts, from vitamin A at 60 mcg RAE to biotin at 2,500 mcg, plus a 179.5 mg blend of 11 botanicals. It also lists four other ingredients and declares soy. The blend is declared as one total, so no botanical has an amount of its own.

What is printed on the OptiCore Pro supplement facts panel?

The bottle is the ingredient list. The seller's sales page names no ingredient, but the right-hand side of the bottle carries a full Supplement Facts panel. The serving size is one capsule. There are 30 servings in each container. Here is every quantified row, as printed.

Key facts
  • 16 quantified nutrients, each with an amount and a % Daily Value.
  • One proprietary blend of 179.5 mg that holds 11 named botanicals.
  • Four other ingredients: rice flour, hypromellose, magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide.
  • One declared allergen: soy.
  • No lutein, zeaxanthin, copper or omega-3 on the panel.
  • A capsule, not a gummy, a tablet or a drop.

Which botanicals are inside the 179.5 mg blend?

Eleven, in the order the label prints them. The total is never split, so no per-item amount exists for any of these.

  1. PABA (P-amino benzoic acid)
  2. Horsetail extract (Equisetum arvense L., whole plant)
  3. Fo-Ti (Polygonum multiflorum, root)
  4. Bamboo extract (Phyllostachys nigra, leaf)
  5. Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica L.)
  6. Chinese peony (Paeonia lactiflora, root)
  7. Spirulina (Arthrospira platensis, whole plant)
  8. Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens)
  9. Plant sterols from soy bean (Glycine max)
  10. Alfalfa (Medicago sativa, herb)
  11. Barley grass (Hordeum vulgare L., whole herb)

If you divide 179.5 mg evenly, each botanical would get about 16 mg. But the label does not say it is divided evenly, and the first named item is not necessarily the largest. We do not guess. A reader who sees a different "amount per botanical" on another site is seeing a guess.

What are the other ingredients and the allergen?

Other ingredients are rice flour, hypromellose, which is the vegetable capsule shell, magnesium stearate (vegetable) and silicon dioxide. One allergen is declared, soy, and the source is the plant sterols in the blend. The capsule shell is hypromellose and not gelatin, so the capsule suits a vegetarian diet. The one dietary line to check is the soy. Anyone who avoids soy should treat the product as unsuitable.

Which OptiCore Pro ingredient has the biggest number?

Biotin, at 2,500 mcg, which is 8,333.5% of the Daily Value. It is the largest figure on the label. Biotin is vitamin B7, a coenzyme in fat processing. Human deficiency is rare. Its reputation comes from hair and nail products, and a review of biotin for hair describes the evidence as thin. No trial with a vision endpoint exists for biotin at any amount. The practical consequence of 2,500 mcg is a laboratory one: it can interfere with some blood tests. Tell the lab what you take.

Which ingredients have an eye-trial history?

Four: vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc and beta-carotene. They were part of the AREDS trial formula, and three of them carried into the AREDS2 formula. The label carries each at a small fraction of its trial amount, roughly 4 to 12 per cent. For example, the label has 60 mg of vitamin C against 500 mg a day in AREDS. It has 3.62 mg of zinc against 80 mg of zinc oxide in AREDS and 25 mg in the AREDS2 low-zinc arm. It has 7 mg of vitamin E against 400 IU a day in AREDS.

Folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 match a different trial of B vitamins in women, at about a sixth, a twelfth and a 167th of those amounts.

What is not in the OptiCore Pro formula?

Lutein and zeaxanthin are not on the panel. These two carotenoids are what modern eye formulas are built around. Copper, which the early AREDS formula paired with high-dose zinc, is not on it. Omega-3 is not on it either. Add the fact that the vitamin A source is beta-carotene, which AREDS2 dropped for smokers, and you can see this is not an AREDS or AREDS2 formula. Describing it as one would be wrong on four ingredients and on every amount.

Why is the blend format a problem?

A blend prints one total across several ingredients. That limits what anyone can say. Horsetail trials gave 900 mg a day of dried extract, five times the entire blend. A trial of plant sterols for cholesterol uses 2 to 3 g a day. You cannot match any ingredient in a 179.5 mg blend to the amount a study used. That is the blend format working as designed. It is the one part of the label a reader has to take on trust.

How do you read these ingredients as a buyer?

Think of two halves. The quantified half is a daily multivitamin and can fill gaps in a thin diet. The blend half is a set of botanicals that, together with the biotin, resembles a hair, skin and nail capsule. If your goal is nutrient cover, the first half does the work. If your goal is a formula with lutein and zeaxanthin, look elsewhere. If your goal is an AREDS-style formula, speak to an eye doctor first.

Is OptiCore Pro a pill, a gummy or drops?

People type "opticore pro pills", "opticore pro drops" and "opticore pro gummies". The label answers all three: it is a capsule with a hypromellose shell, one a day, 30 to a bottle. The category does include "eye health supplements gummies" and liquid products, but this is not one of them. The panel above is the whole OptiCore Pro ingredients list as the bottle prints it. Vision supplement ingredients differ a great deal between products, so compare panels row by row and not by the picture on the front.

What this article is

OptiCore Pro is a dietary supplement. It is not FDA approved, and no supplement is. It is not a drug and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. This page is general information, not medical advice. The label says pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18 and anyone with a known medical condition should consult a physician first, and soy is declared. Ask a doctor or pharmacist about your own case.

Frequently asked questions

What are the OptiCore Pro ingredients?

Sixteen nutrients with printed amounts, from vitamin A at 60 mcg RAE to biotin at 2,500 mcg, and a 179.5 mg blend of PABA, horsetail, Fo-Ti, bamboo leaf, stinging nettle, Chinese peony, spirulina, saw palmetto, soy plant sterols, alfalfa and barley grass.

Does OptiCore Pro contain lutein and zeaxanthin?

No. Neither carotenoid is on the panel. The same is true of copper and omega-3.

How much of each botanical is in the OptiCore Pro blend?

Not published. The blend totals 179.5 mg and the label does not split it, so no botanical has an amount of its own.

Is there an allergen in OptiCore Pro?

Yes. Soy is declared, and it traces to the plant sterols in the blend. Anyone who avoids soy should not use the product.

Is OptiCore Pro made as gummies, drops or pills?

It is a capsule with a hypromellose shell. It is neither a gummy, a tablet nor a liquid.

Is the OptiCore Pro capsule vegetarian?

The shell is hypromellose, a plant cellulose, and every ingredient in the blend is botanical. The one line to check is the declared soy.

Our view

The best thing about the OptiCore Pro label is that you can read it. Every amount is shown, and the 11 botanicals are named in Latin with the part used. The weak point is the blend total, which hides the amount of each botanical. We rate the disclosure as good for the category and not perfect.

Our advice: compare the panel with what you already take, count iron and biotin across products, and leave out the product if you avoid soy. For any question about a medicine, a condition or pregnancy, ask a doctor or pharmacist with the bottle in your hand.
